Matthew 5:14-16 (Easy-to-Read Version)
“You are the light that shines for the world to see. You are like a city built on a hill that cannot be hidden.
People don’t hide a lamp under a bowl. They put it on a lampstand. Then the light shines for everyone in the house.
In the same way, you should be a light for other people. Live so that they will see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven.
Many of us feel that we have to be in a certain place or position in order to shine or be notice. I have learned to shine where I am; allowing my gift to make room for me. We always have to put on a production to be seen and feel that is when our light shines best. I have notice that my light shines most when I least expect it ~ like when I smile; my smile

Or, my light shines when I am striving for perfection solely dependent upon God; which brings me to my point of in order to shine we must allow Jesus to be our center and source of light; realizing that we are the reflection of His light. God created us for His Glory; therefore, our function is to shine for Him just as the moon reflects the glory of the sun.
We are like a city that is set on a hill; it is elevated above its surroundings and it shines in the midst of darkness. As we strive for perfection in God, we will exhibit the traits of Christ’s teaching and our light cannot be hidden.
People do not light a lamp and put it under a basket. Instead, they put it on a lampstand so that it will give light to all who are in the house. God did not intend for us to hoard the light of His blessings, miracles, teachings and the list goes on for ourselves, but we are share it with others. God has blessed us in such an abundance that we have more than enough to share with others. We should let our light so shine that as people see our good works, they will glorify God. The emphasis is on the ministry of our Christian character. With Christ being the center of our lives, our example speaks louder than the persuasion of words.
Isaiah 58:6-8 (Easy-to-Read Version)
“I will tell you the kind of day I want–a day to set people free. I want a day that you take the burdens off others. I want a day when you set troubled people free and you take the burdens from their shoulders.
I want you to share your food with the hungry. I want you to find the poor who don’t have homes and bring them into your own homes. When you see people who have no clothes, give them your clothes! Don’t hide from your relatives when they need help.”
If you do these things, your light will begin to shine like the light of dawn. Then your wounds will heal. Your “Goodness” will walk in front of you, and the Glory of the LORD will come following behind you.
I Say, Shine Where You Are ~ Your Light is So Bright, you will see your reflection illuminated and multiplied in many others.

I have found that people notice things you will never notice about yourself. Especially the bad so when I receive positive feedback on my light shining I get excited and thankful.
